Your Power to Generate the Future

When watching sports events on television, I often notice the skills of the commentators: their constant concentration, comprehensive knowledge of the game and the teams, split-second recognition, powers of verbal description, and colorful personalities. Every moment demands their full attention and they face the risk of being wrong with every call.

They must really feel themselves to be part of the action. In fact, their enthusiasm is so contagious it makes me feel like I'm part of the action, too.

But, that's an illusion. While the commentators are certainly a part of the experience for the spectators, they are not generating any action on the field. And neither am I.

At a sports event, being a fan is a great way to relax and socialize, and the play-by-play reporters allow thousands more people to relax and enjoy the game at home. The role of observer is entirely appropriate when you are enjoying a spectator sport. I often notice, however, how I inappropriately carry the role of spectator into my own life and then wonder why I have no power to produce anything.

Let's look into that.
